Exercising your arms can be hard, especially if you don’t know what exercises to do and how to get started. Before you truly build the arms of your dreams, you first have to understand your body and how it works overall to help you focus on your arms and get you the best results. Then, follow these three simple arm exercises and you’ll be well on your way to the arms of your dreams in no time!

How To Exercise

Proper arm exercise is a great way to improve your health, but don’t run out and lift weights just yet. While strength training has many benefits, including reducing your risk for heart disease and diabetes, heavy weightlifting can stress your joints and increase injury risk if you don’t know what you’re doing. Instead, try these five non-weightlifting exercises that still give you impressive results.

Cardio Training

Cardiovascular exercises like running and swimming can burn fat and tone muscles. These exercises strengthen your heart, improve endurance, and help you live a healthier life. Remember that it’s best to consult a doctor before beginning any exercise routine.

Bench Presses

It’s not only a great chest exercise, but it also helps build your triceps and shoulders. The bench press involves lying on a bench with a barbell resting above your chest. Squeeze your upper arms into your sides as you push up and away from the floor, lifting both yourself and weights off of the bench at once. Slowly lower back down to complete one rep.

Dumbbell Shoulder Raises

To build your arm muscles, you need to choose a few exercises and perform them on a regular basis. To get started, give shoulder raises a try. This exercise targets your deltoids—the large muscle at the top of your arm that works hard during almost every other upper-body exercise you’ll do. Start with five sets (about 15 repetitions) three times per week and add weight when possible.

Bicep Curls

One of the easiest exercises you can do to build up your arms is a bicep curl. It sounds simple, but it’s one that many people skip in favor of harder (but less useful) exercises like pull-ups or push-ups. To do a bicep curl, hold a dumbbell (or other weight) in one hand, stand with your feet shoulder width apart, then raise your arm straight out in front of you until it is parallel with your head.
